Through extensive research and engineering, Universal Welding has developed Composite Rolls as replacements for typical steel mill roll applications.
Composite Rolls consist of a steel center mandrel, which is weld overlaid with our Heat shield 98 weld material. This combination results in a working surface hardness of 54/58Rc and vastly improves wearability over conventional roll materials.
Our comprehensive reconditioning process allows us to renew worn rolls at 60 percent less cost than replacement. All rolls are repaired with high-performance overlays and machined to OEM specifications.

Our metallurgical specialists can help you select a premium overlay alloy designed to provide the tough, wear-resistant properties necessary to lower your overall costs and improve product performance.
Our capabilities allow us to offer complete mechanical maintenance services on Straightener Rolls. We can handle Medart rolls in sizes #1 through #10 and Sutton Rolls sets up to #60 KDT, #5B, and 2100 sizes. Roll chemistries H13, D-2, 52100, and 4340 analyses.
All rolls undergo nondestructible testing before and after pre-machining. Our preheat and stress relieving procedures assure quality and durability. Weld overlays are applied using automatic welding machines and selected alloy materials to achieve up to 58Rc hardness.
Final finish processing is performed using tracer attachments to assure compliance with all contours and tolerances.
